____________________________________________________________________________________________
The Tamar Valley Film Festival is back for 2026 — and it's bigger than ever.
Now in its second year, TVFF has grown into one of Tasmania's most exciting cultural events of the year, celebrating the remarkable depth of filmmaking talent right here in our own backyard. Across two evenings and a full day of professional development, the festival brings together Tasmanian filmmakers, screen creatives, students, and film lovers for a weekend of inspiration, connection, and great storytelling.
The Screenings
Join us on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 May for two curated evenings of Tasmanian-made films. From short films and documentaries to bold experimental works, every screening showcases the creativity and diversity of our local screen community. Doors open at 6pm with screenings running from 6.30–9pm each night.
The Workshops
New in 2026, the festival introduces three professional development workshops held on Saturday 30 May, designed for Tasmanian creatives at every stage of their career:
? Sound for Film with Luke Cruddas
9am–12pm | UTAS Library, Inveresk | $60pp
Dive deep into the craft of audio for screen with one of Tasmania's most experienced sound practitioners. Whether you're a filmmaker, editor or aspiring sound designer, this hands-on morning workshop will sharpen your skills and transform the way you think about sound in your work.
? The Art of VFX Editing with Daniel Le
1pm–3pm | School of the Arts, Invermay | $50pp
Visual effects are no longer just for Hollywood — and Daniel Le is here to prove it. This afternoon workshop unpacks the art and technique of VFX editing, giving Tasmanian creatives practical tools and insight to elevate their productions.
? Tax & Super for Creatives / Sole Traders with Rachel Mendlick
3.15pm–4.15pm | School of the Arts, Invermay | FREE (registration required)
The business side of being a creative doesn't have to be overwhelming. Rachel Mendlick breaks down the essentials of tax and superannuation for sole traders and freelancers in a clear, practical and genuinely useful session. This one is free — but spots are limited, so register early.
The Venue
The festival is centred at the School of the Arts (SOTA), 96 Gleadow Street, Invermay — one of Launceston's most loved creative spaces. The morning workshop takes place just a short walk away at the UTAS Library, Inveresk, before the afternoon moves back to SOTA for the rest of the day's program.
Film Submissions
Are you a Tasmanian filmmaker? Submissions are open now and close 31 March 2026. Visit www.tvff.com.au to find out how to submit your work for consideration in this year's program.
About the Festival
The Tamar Valley Film Festival was founded to give Tasmanian screen stories the audience they deserve — and to build a stronger, more connected creative community across the state. The inaugural 2026 festival sold out, and this year we're expanding the program to welcome even more filmmakers, creatives, and film lovers from across Tasmania and beyond.
The festival is proudly supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania and Screen Tasmania.
Tickets
Tickets to the screenings are $20 per night or $30 for both evenings. Limited earlybird full weekend passes (to all screenings & workshops) are also available for $120 — the best way to experience everything TVFF has to offer.
